How much does an SMSF valuation cost?

Short answer

An SMSF valuation has a fixed fee set by what the fund holds. Investment entity: $995 + GST. Trading business, by annual turnover: $1,495 + GST, $2,495 + GST or $3,495 + GST. Annual update of our own valuation: $495 + GST per entity. We confirm the fee in writing before we start. No hourly billing.

What does an SMSF valuation cost for each type of holding?

The fee follows what the fund holds. An investment entity is valued from its net assets. A trading business is priced by annual turnover, because turnover is a reasonable guide to the work involved.

A trading business here means shares or units in a company or trust that runs a business. See pricing for the full schedule, or get a quote for a written fee.

What does the annual update cost?

Annual update: $495 + GST per entity. It applies when we prepared last year's valuation, for the same entity, with no restructure or major change, and it rolls our valuation forward to this 30 June. If the entity has been restructured or has changed in a major way, a new valuation is priced as in the table above.

What can add to the fee?

  • Each additional valuation date: $495 + GST. For example, a value at 30 June and again at the date of a transfer.
  • Each additional trading entity: $795 + GST. Investment entities are not add-ons: each one carries the investment entity fee.
  • Court work. A report prepared for commercial purposes is not a court expert report. Court or tribunal work is a separate engagement with its own fee: Quoted individually.
  • Family law. SMSF interests in a property settlement are prepared through our dedicated family law practice, Family Law Valuations, where a Settlement Valuation is $1,495 + GST for a business with annual turnover under $2 million, or $2,495 + GST, and an Expert Report is $4,495 + GST.

Is the fee fixed, and what is not offered?

We confirm the fee in writing before we start. No hourly billing. The fee does not depend on the value we reach.

Property held directly by your fund: we are not taking direct property valuations yet. If a trust or company owns the property, we value the units or shares using a property valuation you already hold.

Is GST included in the fee?

No. Every fee is quoted plus GST.

Does a bigger fund pay a bigger fee?

Not because of its size. The fee follows what the fund holds: an investment entity has one fee, and a trading business is priced by annual turnover, not by the value of the fund or the value we reach.
